The House Public Education Committee met Tuesday with an agenda that included six bills, including a bill intended to protect parental rights and another that would prohibit districts from purchasing materials on the State Board of Education’s “rejected” list.

Student discipline, a proposed cell phone ban, and bills that insert religion into public schools—it’s another week in the 89th Legislature.

In doing so, the president makes good on a campaign promise—but leaves many questions unanswered.

ATPE testified at the House Public Education Committee’s hearing on House Bill 3, which began Tuesday morning and ended Wednesday morning.

Although not identical, both SB 2 and HB 3 would provide Gov. Greg Abbott the voucher program his donors are expecting him to deliver.
