The House Public Education Committee has advanced the House’s STAAR redesign bill, and the Ten Commandments law has been temporarily blocked in 11 districts.

The attorneys challenging the new state law hope that other school districts won’t implement it after a federal judge found it unconstitutional.

The first-called special session has ended, and a second special session follows with an almost identical agenda.

Speaker Burrows says a quorum is expected on Monday.

Application is due on September 15.

Following limited testimony in an Aug. 6 hearing, the committee voted to send its testing and accountability bill to the full Senate.

It’s unlikely either parents or educators would consider this bill to fulfill the promise of “eliminating the STAAR test.”
